Engagement Posing Guide: Posing Made Simple for Future Brides

Don’t Have ANY Idea How to Pose?

As a wedding photographer, you come to understand the importance of capturing genuine and authentic moments for your couples. Natural poses can bring out the true personalities and create timeless memories to look back on for generations. In this guide, I’ll share some valuable tips for girls to achieve those effortlessly beautiful, candid shots that show their love story.

Soft Touches

Soft touches can add an elegant, romantic ambiance to your engagement session. I concern I get from most Brides are “I don’t know what to do with my hands.”

A few soft touches involving your hands can include:

  • Holding Hands

  • Running fingers through hair

  • Fingertip contact

  • Caress the face

  • Caress the shoulder

  • Hand on the heart

Other soft touches can involve:

  • Forehead kisses

  • Touch cheeks

  • Eskimo kisses

  • Whispering in each others ear

Play Romantic Music

Make a playlist of some of your guys’ favorite songs, and play them on a speaker! What better way to calm your nerves than listening to a romantic song while with your fiance? I always bring my own speaker and playlist, but you should communicate with your photographer and check with them first to make sure.

Use Props

Do you have any special items that relate to your relationship? If so, they can help add a natural vibe of just you 2 spending time together. maybe its an activity that keeps you both busy while your photographer takes pictures off to the side.

Here’s a few examples of props to use:

  • Your favorite book

  • A picnic setup with your favorite foods

  • Your Pet! I always allow for furry friends :)

Choose a Photographer You Trust

Selecting a photographer that you trust is crucial for enabling comfort and open communication. Trust enables a relaxed atmosphere that encourages candid beauty. You’ll be able to confidently express your love for each other knowing that your photographer is capturing all your best angles.

Ask to See the Shots

Hopefully your photographer captures your best angles and expressions, but you can always ask to see some of the photos after each pose to ensure you have a few that you like. It’s a good insurance policy!

Communicate Your Insecurities

Look, I get it. You don’t want to bring these up to someone you don’t know too well. As a wedding/engagement photographer, it’s my job to make you feel as beautiful as possible. I do this by emphasizing your confident attributes, and hiding your insecurities. If you don’t like your right side, or if you’re self-conscious about your arms, I would prefer to know that so I can guide you into more flattering positions.
